Humility becomes you!

Humility is defined as the quality of having a modest, accurate view of one's own importance. It is defined by an absence of pride, arrogance, or self-importance, combined with an openness to learning, acknowledging one's limitations, and valuing the contributions of others.

The definition of ‘becomes you’ - enhances your appearance or character.

The definition of ‘enhance’ – increase or improve the quality, value, power or attractiveness.

By being humble your appearance and/or character is increased!

Let’s take a step back to see how we can be humble!

God loves us all equally; with a love we cannot comprehend!

God loves us so much, that He made us unique in understanding, gifts, and talents.

Psalms 139:14 (NLT) Thank you for making me so wonderfully complex! Your workmanship is marvelous--how well I know it.

Romans 12:4-6 (NLT) Just as our bodies have many parts and each part has a special function, so it is with Christ’s body. We are many parts of one body, and we all belong to each other. In his grace, God has given us different gifts for doing certain things well. So if God has given you the ability to prophesy, speak out with as much faith as God has given you.

God designed us to complement each other! We need each other!

1 Corinthians 12:12-27 (NLT) The human body has many parts, but the many parts make up one whole body. So it is with the body of Christ. Some of us are Jews, some are Gentiles, some are slaves, and some are free. But we have all been baptized into one body by one Spirit, and we all share the same Spirit. Yes, the body has many different parts, not just one part. If the foot says, “I am not a part of the body because I am not a hand,” that does not make it any less a part of the body. And if the ear says, “I am not part of the body because I am not an eye,” would that make it any less a part of the body? If the whole body were an eye, how would you hear? Or if your whole body were an ear, how would you smell anything? But our bodies have many parts, and God has put each part just where he wants it. How strange a body would be if it had only one part! Yes, there are many parts, but only one body. The eye can never say to the hand, “I don’t need you.” The head can’t say to the feet, “I don’t need you.” In fact, some parts of the body that seem weakest and least important are actually the most necessary. And the parts we regard as less honorable are those we clothe with the greatest care. So we carefully protect those parts that should not be seen, while the more honorable parts do not require this special care. So God has put the body together such that extra honor and care are given to those parts that have less dignity. This makes for harmony among the members, so that all the members care for each other. If one part suffers, all the parts suffer with it, and if one part is honored, all the parts are glad. All of you together are Christ’s body, and each of you is a part of it.

Ecclesiastes 4:9-12 (NLT) Two people are better off than one, for they can help each other succeed. If one person falls, the other can reach out and help. But someone who falls alone is in real trouble. Likewise, two people lying close together can keep each other warm. But how can one be warm alone? A person standing alone can be attacked and defeated, but two can stand back-to-back and conquer. Three are even better, for a triple-braided cord is not easily broken.

God designed us so uniquely that there is no competition between us allowing humility!

Philippians 2:3-4 (NLT) Don’t be selfish; don’t try to impress others. Be humble, thinking of others as better than yourselves. Don’t look out only for your own interests, but take an interest in others, too.

Galatians 6:4 (NLT) Pay careful attention to your own work, for then you will get the satisfaction of a job well done, and you won’t need to compare yourself to anyone else.

Romans 12:10 (NLT) Love each other with genuine affection, and take delight in honoring each other.

Galatians 5:26 (NLT) Let us not become conceited, or provoke one another, or be jealous of one another.

Colossians 3:23-24 (NLT) Work willingly at whatever you do, as though you were working for the Lord rather than for people. Remember that the Lord will give you an inheritance as your reward, and that the Master you are serving is Christ.

Remember to recognize that God is the source of all good works!

1 Corinthians 15:10 (NLT) But whatever I am now, it is all because God poured out his special favor on me--and not without results. For I have worked harder than any of the other apostles; yet it was not I but God who was working through me by his grace.

Humility leads to unity!

Ephesians 4:2-3 (NLT) Always be humble and gentle. Be patient with each other, making allowance for each other’s faults because of your love. Make every effort to keep yourselves united in the Spirit, binding yourselves together with peace.

Philippians 2:2-3 (NLT) Then make me truly happy by agreeing wholeheartedly with each other, loving one another, and working together with one mind and purpose. Don’t be selfish; don’t try to impress others. Be humble, thinking of others as better than yourselves.

Romans 12:16 (NLT) Live in harmony with each other. Don’t be too proud to enjoy the company of ordinary people. And don’t think you know it all!

1 Peter 3:8 (NLT) Finally, all of you should be of one mind. Sympathize with each other. Love each other as brothers and sisters. Be tenderhearted, and keep a humble attitude.

Colossians 3:12-14 (NLT) Since God chose you to be the holy people he loves, you must clothe yourselves with tenderhearted mercy, kindness, humility, gentleness, and patience. Make allowance for each other’s faults, and forgive anyone who offends you. Remember, the Lord forgave you, so you must forgive others. Above all, clothe yourselves with love, which binds us all together in perfect harmony.

Jesus wants us to be united!

John 17:11 (NLT) Now I am departing from the world; they are staying in this world, but I am coming to you. Holy Father, you have given me your name; now protect them by the power of your name so that they will be united just as we are.

Unity will testify to the world of God’s love!

Unity will testify to the world that Jesus is our LORD and Savior!

John 17:23 (NLT) I am in them and you are in me. May they experience such perfect unity that the world will know that you sent me and that you love them as much as you love me.

Praise God! God gave us this testimony by design!

Let us be humble.

2 Chronicles 7:14 (NLT) Then if my people who are called by my name will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, I will hear from heaven and will forgive their sins and restore their land.

Let us pray:

Our Father in heaven, bring us to seek You wholeheartedly in prayer. Lord, we come to you in reverence. Please help us to honor and respect You in every aspect of our lives. God, help each of us to love You with all our heart, soul, mind and strength. May Your kingdom come, Your will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Thank you for being our Heavenly Father and providing us everything we need. Lord, please help us to humble ourselves before You. We are sorry for all our sins, for those we are aware and unaware of. Lord, please deliver us from the evil one’s temptation to sin. Please help us to live for You with boldness. In the mighty name of Jesus, Amen!
